Fox News Digital reported, citing a knowledgeable source, that U.S. authorities raided the home of Congresswoman Ilhan Omar in the Washington area just before dawn on Monday, as part of an investigation into the immigration documents of the Somali-born Democratic representative.
A spokesperson for the Department of Justice told Fox News Digital, “The Homeland Security Investigations division executed a search warrant issued by the Department of Justice in the Washington metropolitan area today. This action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.”
The news website added that the raid followed a criminal investigation into fraud related to the Minnesota representative’s paperwork, which was completed by her late father when she was a child.
The Department of Justice had not yet responded to a request for comment. Nor had a representative for the congresswoman responded to a similar request.
Ilhan Omar has been a frequent target of political criticism from Republican President Donald Trump, who portrayed the Somali-American community as a threat to Minnesota, as part of a recent wave of anti-Somali and anti-Muslim rhetoric.
