Lebanese Prime Minister: No Compromise or Leniency in Explosives Case

Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam affirmed on Monday that there would be no leniency or slackening in the investigation into the seizure of more than half a ton of explosives of the TNT and C-4 varieties.

In a post on the X platform today, Salam said, “It has become known that a truck was stopped a few days ago in the Dahr el-Bider area, traveling from the Bekaa to the Greater Beirut region (which includes Beirut Governorate and the municipalities adjacent to Mount Lebanon Governorate), carrying hundreds of kilograms of explosives, including the highly explosive C-4.”

Salam expressed understanding of the concern among Lebanese citizens regarding the news of the truck’s seizure and its cargo, particularly since C-4 has been used in several notorious political assassinations in modern Lebanese history.

He called on all Lebanese to be confident that the government would not show any leniency in pursuing and expanding the investigation to identify everyone involved in this criminal operation, and that it would not tolerate anyone who attempts to undermine the country’s security, safety, and stability.

Government commissioner at the Military Court, Lebanese Judge Claude Ghanem, began today the investigation into the explosives case, with the seized materials placed in the custody of the Lebanese Military Police.
