Iran: We Are Studying US Response to Proposal to Reopen Strait of Hormuz... Will Respond via Intermediaries

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Baghaei said on Monday that his country is still studying the U.S. response to its proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and will respond to Washington through intermediaries once that process is complete.

Baghaei added at a press conference that Tehran continues to exchange messages via intermediaries, without going into further details.

Qatar and Pakistan, among other parties, have played a mediating role in efforts to end the war that began with U.S. and Israeli strikes on Iran on February 28.

Following the collapse of a ceasefire agreed upon in June and the resumption of intermittent strikes, Iran put forward its proposal in mid-September and later confirmed receiving a U.S. response.

However, the process has stalled since then. On Sunday, the secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council stated that the U.S. response did not adequately address the seven conditions set by Tehran for reopening the Strait of Hormuz and returning to negotiations.
