EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and European Commission Vice President Kaja Kallas confirmed, during a phone call initiated with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, the European Union’s solidarity with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia following the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported that Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah received a phone call today, Sunday, from EU High Representative Kaja Kallas.

SPA added that the Saudi and European sides discussed the Houthi attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh during the call, with Kallas reiterating the EU’s condemnation of the assault and emphasizing that random attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure cannot be justified.

The call also reviewed cooperation relations between the Kingdom and the European Union, and discussed regional and international developments of mutual interest, according to SPA.

Earlier on Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Defense announced a resumption of attacks against King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, stating that Saudi air defenses intercepted and destroyed a cruise missile in the vicinity of the airport.

The coalition also revealed in a statement on Sunday evening that an attack using an unidentified projectile struck Terminal 4 at King Khalid International Airport.

The attack sparked a fire, while authorities are currently assessing the site.

The Saudi Civil Aviation Authority had previously announced that the “brutal attack” targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Saturday afternoon resulted in the deaths of 12 people, including citizens and residents, and injured 309 others, according to a statement by the authority.

The Civil Aviation Authority noted that the fatalities included four citizens and residents: two Bangladeshi nationals, one American, one Egyptian, one Jordanian, one Syrian, one Palestinian, and one Sudanese.

The attack also injured 309 others, who are receiving necessary medical care at several hospitals, including critical cases, while material damages are being assessed.

The General Authority of Civil Aviation had announced that King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh was attacked on Saturday afternoon, October 10, 2026, amid ongoing blatant attacks targeting civil aviation facilities in the Kingdom. The attack resulted in several injuries, which are being tallied.

The authority clarified that operational operations at the airport were temporarily suspended pending a full damage assessment and verification of facility safety, in coordination with relevant authorities, with further updates to be announced later.
