Pope undergoes surgery to remove lung nodule detected in early stages

Pope Leo, the Pope of the Vatican, announced on Sunday that doctors had detected a small pulmonary nodule at a very early stage during a recent medical examination, adding that he would undergo surgery in the coming days to remove it.
The 71-year-old Pope told the crowd gathered in St. Peter’s Square during his Sunday homily that the nodule had been detected at a very early stage and was “under control.”
He continued, saying, “Recently, during medical examinations, doctors detected a small nodule in my lung... It was detected at a very early stage and is completely under control.”
The Vatican Press Office stated that the Pope’s recovery from the surgery is expected to take about a week.
