United Real Estate to Develop Fish Market

Sulaiman Al-Asaker, CEO of Property Management at United Real Estate, said: “The company views the fish market as a national project playing a vital role in supporting the food security system, which the company is keen to enhance by improving market efficiency, upgrading the sales and shopping environment, and providing more organized and higher-quality facilities and services for vendors and consumers.”

Al-Asaker added: “This transition is being carried out in close coordination with government entities and relevant stakeholders to ensure smooth procedures and compliance with all regulatory and operational requirements. We extend our gratitude to the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, the Public Authority for Food and Nutrition, the Public Authority for Agriculture and Fish Resources, the General Fire Department, Kuwait Municipality, and all participating entities for their continuous cooperation and support in ensuring the success of this phase.”

As part of the development plan, the number of fish, fruit, vegetable, and other food stalls will increase from 214 to over 240, enabling the accommodation of more vendors and enhancing the diversity of products offered, including fresh, frozen, and live fish. Applications for stall operators will be accepted soon.

During the development works at the fish market, sales operations will be relocated to a temporary outdoor hall adjacent to the current market building, designated to accommodate stalls and ensure uninterrupted business continuity.

A clear operational pathway will also be established to transport fish from the sea to the hall, ensuring smooth and efficient delivery to the sales area while preserving product quality during transit.

The fish market development project will include several engineering and service improvements, such as designating an independent area for fish cleaning to maintain hygiene in sales zones, upgrading ventilation and drainage systems, and organizing the display of local and imported fish. The project will also include adding restaurants specializing in cooking fresh fish.

Al-Asaker stated: “After development, the fish market will rank among the distinguished fish markets in the Gulf and the region.”

Regarding the waterfront plan (Phase III) – East Market, he clarified: “The company’s vision for developing the East project focuses on highlighting the unique value of each component in this distinctive area, with the fish market taking precedence due to its economic and social role, and the marine resources it provides, which form an important part of the Kuwaiti table.”
