The Kuwait Stock Exchange continued its positive trajectory for the second consecutive session, concluding Wednesday’s trading with gains in three of its main indices. Notable activity was observed across several shares in the main market, with total trading value reaching approximately 80.16 million dinars.
The General Market Index closed the session up 0.16%, or 13.46 points, at 8,667.50 points. The First Market rose 0.15%, or 13.25 points, to 9,063.91 points, while the Main Market gained 0.20%, adding 17.70 points to close at 8,918.53 points.
In contrast, the “Main 50” index bucked the trend, falling 0.22%, or 21.72 points, to 10,056.77 points. This reversal followed its leadership in Tuesday’s gains, which had seen it rise 1.10%, reflecting a shift in market activity among different segments and stocks rather than a continuation of the same upward momentum in the shares that led the rebound in the previous session.
Total trading value amounted to approximately 80.16 million dinars, driven by the exchange of 304.44 million shares across 22,040 transactions.
The “Al-Taksees” stock stood out prominently during the session, surging 12% and leading all stocks in trading value with approximately 14.46 million dinars, accounting for roughly 18% of the total stock market liquidity.
In terms of liquidity, “Bitek” ranked second with trading volumes of 8.49 million dinars, up 0.13%, followed by “Eva” with 4.59 million dinars, “Gulf B” with 3.21 million, and “Real Estate K” with 3.06 million dinars.
Sectoral performance was broad-based, with eight sectors closing higher against five that declined. Consumer goods led the gainers with a 1.21% increase, followed by industry at 0.69%, consumer services at 0.40%, telecommunications at 0.19%, energy at 0.16%, banks at 0.15%, real estate at 0.14%, and financial services at 0.09%.
Wednesday’s session reinforced signals that began to emerge at the end of the previous downturn, coming after five consecutive sessions of decline characterized by dominant selling pressure. In the final sessions of that downtrend, trading volumes began to recede, reflecting a gradual weakening in selling strength.
During that downturn, stock prices had absorbed a significant portion of concerns related to geopolitical developments, rising bond yields, and other pressing factors, even as markets tend to price in expected developments in advance. As prices for several stocks reached more attractive levels, liquidity began to return selectively, marking the second session of rebound for the stock market today.
Notably, the leadership of the market movement shifted between the two sessions. After the “Main 50” was the strongest driver of Tuesday’s gains, the advantage shifted today to the Main Market, coinciding with strong activity in shares such as “Al-Taksees,” “Yopak,” and “Eva,” while the First Market maintained only modest gains.
This indicates that the market has not yet transitioned to a broad-based rally led by all segments, but it does show an improvement in buying appetite and a decline in seller dominance compared to the five previous declining sessions.
