Suspension of Subsidies for 'Public Benefit' Organizations

In implementation of Cabinet Decision No. 906, which approves the cancellation of government subsidies to trade union organizations and public benefit associations under the supervision of the Ministry of Social Affairs, Al-Jarida learned from its sources that the Ministry’s Social Development and Care Sector has halted the disbursement of financial subsidies to approximately 42 such associations, totaling nearly 1.1 million Kuwaiti dinars annually.
According to sources, certain amounts had been allocated to some of the subsidized associations under the “raising reserves” heading for the fiscal years 2023, 2024, and 2025. However, following the Cabinet decision, these amounts will no longer be disbursed and will instead be returned to the state’s general treasury.
The sources clarified that the Ministry of Finance has contacted the Ministry of Social Affairs on multiple occasions, requesting the executive regulations and Cabinet decisions that specify the eligibility of each individual association for financial support. However, no decision or executive regulation has been found that clarifies any association’s entitlement to receive such subsidies.
