Iraq: Iranian Airlines Allowed to Operate 40 Daily Flights to Najaf, Excluding Mahan Air

In a statement published by the Prime Minister’s Office on his Facebook page today, Al-Idi said that “as part of government efforts to facilitate the movement of travelers and visitors arriving in or departing from Iraq, and to support humanitarian, medical, tourism, and academic aspects, and following persistent follow-up on the file of resuming air flights for Iranian airlines to and from Najaf International Airport, through a series of communications and follow-ups with the concerned parties, an agreement was reached allowing 40 daily flights to and from Najaf International Airport for Iranian airlines, with the exception of Mahan Air.”

The Iraqi Prime Minister appreciated the positive response demonstrated by the US government regarding Iraqi efforts, and its cooperation in granting the required exemption, which contributes to addressing this file and facilitating the movement of visitors and travelers, particularly cases related to medical treatment, religious visits, and tourism. This cooperation also reflects the importance of dialogue and understanding in addressing files with a humanitarian dimension, and underscores that diplomatic channels and responsible communication are capable of finding practical solutions that take into account people’s interests and needs.

He emphasized that air traffic does not merely represent transportation between two airports, but rather serves as a bridge for communication among peoples; among the passengers are patients awaiting arrival at their treatment facilities, visitors heading to the holy shrines, and families looking forward to easy and swift reunions. In addition, this movement holds significant importance for tourism, the economy, and social connectivity.

Al-Idi stressed that Iraq’s foreign relations and communications are guided by the interests of its people, and by its commitment to building balanced and positive relations with various countries, leveraging these relations to facilitate people’s lives and sustain communication among peoples. He affirmed the continuation of follow-up on files that directly affect the lives of citizens and visitors, and working with all concerned parties to remove obstacles to transportation and air traffic, in a manner that serves Iraq, safeguards the interests of travelers, and enhances cooperation and human communication among peoples.
