Manchester City Appeals Conviction for Breaching English Premier League Rules

Manchester City confirmed on Friday that it has filed a “comprehensive appeal” against a ruling by an independent commission appointed by the English Premier League, which concluded that the club had committed “serious” financial violations between 2009 and 2018, in a case that has sparked controversy in English football.
In a statement, Manchester City said, “The club is innocent of the charges brought by the English Premier League, and there is a full body of compelling evidence supporting its position in this case,” adding that the appeal was submitted on Thursday evening.
It further stated, “The club’s firm position is that the opinion contains, in several respects, clear fundamental errors in law, principle, and fact, and cannot be relied upon.”
The club added, “The club is innocent of the charges brought by the English Premier League, and there is a comprehensive body of compelling evidence supporting all its positions in this case.”
The ten-time league champions concluded, “We will continue to respect due legal process, and we are necessarily restricted in what we can say further until all procedures are completed.”
