Ethiopia Demands Departure of Egyptian Diplomat, Declares Him 'Persona Non Grata'

Ethiopia declared an Egyptian diplomat “persona non grata” on Thursday evening and notified the Egyptian embassy in Addis Ababa that he must leave the country within 48 hours.

The announcement came in a statement by the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as reported by the country’s official news agency. At the time of writing (20:20 UTC), no comment had been issued by Egypt, and Addis Ababa had not clarified the reasons for its decision.

The agency reported that the Ethiopian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a declaration that an Egyptian diplomat had been declared persona non grata and that the Egyptian embassy in Addis Ababa had been informed of the necessity for him to leave Ethiopian territory within 48 hours.
