The Lebanese army announced on Thursday that it had seized a quarter-ton of the highly explosive material TNT after it was smuggled across the border from the Syrian side, without managing to arrest the smugglers.
In a statement, the army said, “As a result of surveillance and monitoring operations along the northern and eastern borders, an army unit seized approximately 245 kilograms of highly explosive TNT, along with four explosive devices and eight detonators, during their smuggling from Syrian territory into Lebanon.”
Damascus occasionally announces the seizure of arms shipments, claiming they were en route to Lebanon for Hezbollah, which denies any connection to them and reiterates that it has no presence or activity on Syrian soil.
