Dr. Abdullah Al-Sharika, Director of the Center for Promoting Moderation and Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Promoting Moderation under the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, affirmed that honoring parents is among the greatest rights emphasized by Islam, stressing the necessity of respecting their feelings and treating them with kindness, especially as they age and their needs increase.
In his speech at the forum held this morning under the patronage of Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs Dr. Mohammed Al-Wasmi, and in partnership with the Patient Assistance Fund, at the ministry’s auditorium, Al-Sharika stated that human rights are not limited to a single aspect; rather, they encompass the rights of parents, spouses, children, relatives, neighbors, and all members of society. He noted that Islamic Sharia has affirmed these rights and called for their protection and fulfillment.
He clarified that disobedience to parents is among the major sins, urging children not to raise their voices against their parents or hurt their feelings. He pointed out that individuals are required to show mercy and kindness to their parents even in the most difficult circumstances, as mercy is a fundamental value upon which family and societal life are built.
For his part, Brigadier General (Retired) Badr Al-Ghadhouri, Chairman of the Community Security Committee for Research and Studies and a member of the Retired Officers Association, emphasized the importance of viewing the family in a balanced manner and avoiding an exclusive focus on negatives. He affirmed that successful parenting is not based solely on punishment and verbal guidance, but primarily on leading by example and practical application.
During his speech, which included several examples, Al-Ghadhouri called on fathers to strengthen communication with their children, participate in their daily lives, and pay attention to their psychological and social needs. He stressed that both fathers and mothers must serve as role models for their children.
