Iraqi Prime Minister: Vigilance and Readiness to Preserve Security and Stability

Iraqi Prime Minister Ali Fadh al-Obaidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, called on Wednesday for constant vigilance and readiness, and for raising the level of coordination and cooperation among all military and security forces, updating their plans, procedures, and databases, and relying on modern technological means to ensure security and stability across all regions of the country.

During an extraordinary meeting of the National Security Council to discuss the fortifications and military and security missions of the Iraqi Armed Forces in the post-withdrawal phase of the international coalition against the Daesh terrorist group and the completion of national sovereignty, the Prime Minister stressed that “security and military decisions have now become fully national and the exclusive domain of official state institutions,” according to a government statement.

He also emphasized “the importance of bolstering intelligence efforts, supporting proactive security operations, and pursuing those who fuel extremist rhetoric and sectarian incitement that targets the unity of our people’s diverse components, sows discord, and threatens social and community cohesion.”

He called for “the importance of the role of the Military Industries Corporation at this stage, through establishing productive production partnerships with global companies specializing in the manufacture of weapons and military equipment, and that the government is proceeding to achieve regional and international partnerships for joint cooperation, free from axis-based policies and based on mutual interest.”
