The Public Authority for Combating Corruption, “Nazaha,” participated in the 12th meeting of the Ministerial Committee on Combating Corruption for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, held in Bahrain. The Kuwaiti delegation was led by Dr. Rana Al-Faris, President of Nazaha, and included heads of anti-corruption authorities from GCC member states, alongside the Assistant Secretary-General of the Council for Legislative and Legal Affairs.

In a statement issued today, Nazaha said the meeting adopted recommendations stemming from the specialized Gulf workshop on “Combating Corruption and Identifying the Beneficial Owner,” organized by Nazaha in coordination with the GCC Secretariat General in July 2026. The workshop involved anti-corruption authorities, ministries of commerce and industry from GCC member states, and the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).

Nazaha clarified that the workshop focused on identifying individuals who own or effectively control companies, emphasizing the importance of such information in combating corruption and preventing the use of companies to conceal illicit proceeds. The adoption of these recommendations supports Gulf efforts to enhance ownership transparency and cooperation among competent authorities.

The meeting discussed several topics and proposals aimed at developing joint GCC efforts to prevent and combat corruption, including studying the establishment of a common GCC anti-corruption strategy to facilitate coordination and exchange of expertise among member states.

It also discussed a proposal to hold a workshop titled “Mechanisms for Enhancing Integrity and Compliance in the Private Sector,” within the framework of strengthening national capacities and supporting the private sector’s role in safeguarding integrity and consolidating responsible business practices.

The meeting adopted the results of the evaluation of research papers participating in the GCC Research and Studies Competition in the fields of integrity protection and anti-corruption for 2026, under the theme “Combating Corruption through Non-Judicial Means: Theoretical Approaches and Practical Experiences.”

Participation in the meeting aligns with Kuwait’s commitment to contributing to the development of joint GCC initiatives and supporting cooperation among anti-corruption authorities, thereby enhancing integrity and transparency, protecting the achievements of GCC member states, and serving their peoples.
