King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Zahra Mansouri as Prime Minister on Tuesday, a week after her party, Al-Asl wa al-Mu’asara (Authenticity and Modernity), topped the results of the legislative elections, marking the first time a woman has held this position in Morocco, according to an official statement.
The Royal Palaces Ministry said in a statement that the Moroccan monarch received Mansouri at the Royal Palace in Rabat in her capacity as coordinator of the collective leadership of Al-Asl wa al-Mu’asara, and “His Majesty appointed her, pursuant to Article 47 of the Constitution, as Prime Minister, and tasked her with forming the new government.”
