Director Abdullah Abdulrasoul revealed that “Al-Sour” is a theatrical performance that blends acting, singing, and dance, expressing his delight at directing the grand national epic, which will feature a select group of stars. The show will officially inaugurate the new “Al-Sour” theater on the 30th (the day after tomorrow) as one of the key landmarks of the third phase of the Martyr’s Park project, and it is set to be the largest and most massive theater in the region.
In a statement, Abdulrasoul said that the large national celebratory theatrical production “Al-Sour” draws its content from the epic of building Kuwait’s Third Wall. It evokes the deep historical, national, and emotional significance of the wall, which is firmly embedded in the memory and conscience of every Kuwaiti as a symbol of unity, solidarity, and mutual aid. The production also embodies the will of the Kuwaiti people to protect their homeland and safeguard its sovereignty. Furthermore, it recalls the impregnable national wall that resides in the heart of every Kuwaiti, representing values of belonging, loyalty, and sacrifice.
Abdulrasoul continued, “Through this dramatic approach, we aim to present the wall as a renewed symbol of Kuwaiti national cohesion between the leadership and the people throughout history. We seek to evoke the authentic values that have formed fundamental pillars in Kuwait’s journey, cementing its national identity from one generation to the next. This is especially significant as the performance honors our heroes among the valiant members of the Armed Forces and frontline personnel, in recognition of their major national role in protecting and defending the homeland. It also embodies how their sacrifices and stances represent a living extension of the values of mutual aid, solidarity, and loyalty, which have been passed down by Kuwaitis through the ages.
From an artistic perspective, he clarified that the performance is based on a contemporary celebratory theatrical vision, composed of a series of scenes and dramatic forms integrated into a cohesive theatrical structure. In this structure, drama, music, singing, movement, imagery, visual media, and audio technologies interweave. We have been keen to employ theatrical performance techniques and evoke historical events through dramatic and visual treatments that give the theatrical action its human and emotional dimensions. This artistic vision draws from the past to address the present and the future, conveying an artistic and emotional message that affirms that the true wall will remain present in the conscience of every Kuwaiti, and that Kuwait’s strength has been, and will continue to be, in its unity, the solidarity of its people, and their cohesion around their leadership.
Abdulrasoul pointed out that the soundtrack and dramatic singing segments play a pivotal role in shaping the expressive structure of the performance, organically intertwining with the dramatic action. They contribute to building the internal rhythm of the scenes, intensifying their emotional states, and embodying the intellectual and national meanings and themes from which the work’s concept originates. Additionally, theatrical movement and group formations serve as essential elements in constructing the visual image, giving the scenes an epic and celebratory character that reflects the importance of the national event and the depth of its symbolism.
He noted that the performance is rooted in the concept of celebratory theater, where various performative elements integrate within a shared theatrical space. This is achieved through the participation of a select group of prominent artists and drama stars, alongside groups specializing in movement and singing, as well as the participation of our valiant military personnel. Together, they form a grand national theatrical tableau that embodies the image of cohesive Kuwaiti unity, translating the values of unity, belonging, and sacrifice into a living theatrical act capable of evoking a profound emotional impact on the audience.
He said: “In my directorial vision, I sought to leverage the advanced technical and architectural capabilities of the new Al-Sour Theatre, particularly its expansive stage, transforming it into a spacious, multi-level performance area that facilitates the creation of dramatic compositions and large-scale ensemble scenes through seamless theatrical transitions. This approach enhances the visual and dramatic dimensions of the production, infusing the audience with its expressive and celebratory energy.”
Abdulrasool expressed his delight, stating: “I am immensely proud and honored to be part of this large team working on the production of this national show, which features Kuwait’s foremost artists, whose presence and distinguished artistry crown the stage.” He extended his gratitude and appreciation to the organizing committee of this major national event for its confidence in the production team.
He emphasized that participating in this project represents a national duty we cherish and an artistic responsibility we strive to fulfill with full commitment and vigor.
