Kuwait Strengthens Its International Presence Through Security, Health, Climate, and Regional Cooperation Agendas
During its participation in the High-Level Week of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly, Kuwait affirmed its commitment to strengthening international cooperation and joint coordination on a number of priority files and issues. These include supporting Gulf cooperation with India and Europe, enhancing solidarity among Islamic countries, combating cybercrime, and preventing and responding to pandemics.
Within the framework of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Ambassador Hamad Al-Mari, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Affairs, reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to supporting and enhancing solidarity among Islamic countries. He made this statement following his participation in the OIC’s ministerial coordination meeting.
During the meeting, Ambassador Al-Mari expressed Kuwait’s condemnation of the attacks on GCC member states and several Arab countries. He also renewed the country’s denunciation of the attacks launched by the Houthi militia on the territory of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, which have extended to affect the Holy City of Makkah. He affirmed Kuwait’s standing alongside the Kingdom, emphasizing that its security is an integral part of the security of Kuwait and the GCC states.
In the area of combating cybercrime, Ambassador Tariq Al-Bunai, Kuwait’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to strengthening international cooperation in combating cybercrime and addressing the growing challenges arising from the misuse of information and communications technology for criminal purposes. He made this statement on the occasion of signing the United Nations Convention on Cybercrime.
On the health front, Ambassador Hamad Al-Mari reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to and support for international efforts aimed at strengthening pandemic prevention, preparedness, and response. He stated this during his address at the High-Level Meeting on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response.
Regarding climate issues, Ambassador Sadiq Ma’arifi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for International Organizations Affairs, emphasized the importance of enhancing international solidarity to address the impacts of rising sea levels and to ensure that the most affected countries have access to the financing, technologies, and capabilities needed to adapt to these effects. He made this statement during Kuwait’s participation in the High-Level Meeting titled “Addressing the Existential Threats Arising from Rising Sea Levels,” held at the United Nations headquarters.
