Al-Badawi: Expansion of specialized dermatology clinics in all hospitals and centers
Dr. Abeer Al-Badali, President of the Kuwait Dermatologists Association, confirmed the expansion of specialized dermatology clinics across the country, noting that dermatology departments are available in Ministry of Health hospitals in various governorates of Kuwait, alongside specialized private clinics. She highlighted that Asaad Al-Hamad Hospital enjoys international recognition in the field of atopic eczema, reflecting the high standard of specialized services provided in this area.
In a press statement on the sidelines of the event, she pointed out that treatments are available through the Ministry of Health and are selected based on the patient’s condition, age, and needs, emphasizing the importance of consulting a specialist dermatologist to determine the appropriate treatment.
She noted that the awareness campaign covered Ministry of Health centers and hospitals, and also reached the Ministry of Education. Today’s event is being held at The Avenues Mall, accompanied by scientific seminars organized in collaboration with the Global Atopic Dermatitis Association and the Global Pediatric Dermatology Association.
She stated that the campaign focuses on raising awareness about atopic dermatitis, its symptoms, and ways to live with it, as well as informing the public about diagnostic tests and treatment options doctors may consider, while correcting misconceptions and false information related to the disease.
She explained that the event includes several awareness pavilions, including a “Myth or Fact” pavilion to correct common misconceptions, pavilions addressing certain cosmetic practices and products, a dedicated pavilion on available treatments, and another covering triggers that may exacerbate eczema symptoms.
She noted that triggers vary from patient to patient, as not all cases are identical, urging patients to monitor and identify factors that worsen their symptoms to avoid them as much as possible.
She described atopic dermatitis as an immune-related condition characterized by red patches accompanied by itching and dryness, typically alternating between periods of activity and remission. She added that triggering factors may vary depending on the individual and the season; some experience worsened symptoms due to dryness and heat, while others see exacerbation during winter due to dryness.
She pointed out that atopic dermatitis affects all age groups and occurs in both men and women, noting that the campaign also aims to educate families on how to manage children affected by the disease.
She emphasized that the disease can impact patients’ quality of life, particularly sleep, concentration, and productivity, due to itching and associated symptoms.
