UN Crime Prevention Conference Kicks Off in Abu Dhabi with Participation of the First Deputy

The 15th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (Abu Dhabi 2026) opened on Saturday, with Kuwait represented by Sheikh Fahad Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, alongside ministers, officials, experts, and representatives from a large number of countries worldwide.

Also attending the congress is Awatif Al-Sand, Undersecretary of the Kuwaiti Ministry of Justice, along with several Kuwaiti officials and specialists in legal, judicial, and security fields, as part of the Kuwaiti delegation participating in the congress and its various events.

The congress is being hosted at the ADNEC Abu Dhabi center and will continue until October 1, with an expected participation ranging from 3,000 to 5,000 delegates from more than 97 countries, in addition to ministers, senior officials, and experts specializing in crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.

Held under the theme “Accelerating Action in Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice and the Rule of Law: Protecting People and the Planet and Achieving the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda in the Digital Age,” the congress addresses several issues related to organized and transnational crime, cybercrime, human trafficking, drug trafficking, money laundering, and environmental crimes.

The congress also examines the responsible use of artificial intelligence and modern technology in criminal justice, as well as ways to enhance international cooperation and develop justice systems to keep pace with technological transformations while safeguarding rights, privacy, and transparency.

United Nations congresses on crime prevention and criminal justice have been held every five years since 1955, with the aim of exchanging expertise, identifying emerging trends and challenges, and strengthening international cooperation in the fields of crime prevention, criminal justice, and the rule of law.
