Canada to prosecute man who sold poisons online to assist suicides

The trial of a Canadian man who sold poisons online in several countries to facilitate suicide will resume on November 27, the court handling the case announced on Thursday, after dozens of relatives of the victims gave testimony.

Sessions were originally scheduled for four days, from Wednesday to Monday, to hear testimony from the victims' relatives and friends, but the judge limited the proceedings to two days.

During the court sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, dozens of the victims' parents, siblings, and friends expressed their inability to cope with their losses.

Kenneth Lo, the defendant accused of selling sodium nitrite to dozens of individuals, pleaded guilty in May to 14 charges related to aiding or encouraging suicide.

Sodium nitrite is a legal substance but can be lethal when a certain dosage is exceeded.

A hearing is scheduled for late November to hear arguments from the prosecution and the defense. A sentencing date has not yet been set.
