At least 12 Kazakh army personnel killed during drills in the Caspian Sea

At least 12 Kazakh military personnel were killed on Thursday after being swept out to sea during naval exercises on the Caspian Sea coast, according to the defense ministry of the Central Asian country.

The administration of Kazakhstan’s western Mangystau region, located on the Caspian Sea coast, stated in a Telegram post that “17 people were swept into the sea during a combat training exercise.”

It added, “12 people died and three were rescued, while search operations for the remaining two military personnel are ongoing.”
