The Kuwait Stock Exchange concluded a week characterized by volatility and shifting liquidity trends. Despite facing pressure during some trading sessions, the market managed to recover part of its losses in the final two sessions, ending Thursday’s trades with a broad-based rise across its indices. However, this rebound was insufficient to offset the weekly decline in market capitalization.
The exchange lost approximately 456.14 million dinars in value over the week, dropping from 53.381 billion dinars at the end of the previous week to around 52.925 billion dinars by the close of Thursday’s trading, a decrease of about 0.85%.
This weekly loss occurred despite a noticeable improvement in the market during the latter part of the week, particularly on Wednesday, which recorded strong gains. On Thursday, indices entered a phase of consolidation and retesting of new levels, with selective activity continuing and liquidity rotating among various stocks.
Weekly trading data revealed sustained high levels of activity, with total trading value reaching approximately 507.16 million dinars. This volume was generated through the trading of roughly 1.798 billion shares across 127,830 transactions.
Notably, there was a significant convergence in liquidity distribution between the First Market and the Main Market. The First Market accounted for trading valued at 259.71 million dinars, representing about 51.2% of the total exchange liquidity, while the Main Market recorded 247.45 million dinars, equivalent to approximately 48.8%.
However, the picture differed significantly when examining trading volumes. The Main Market saw the trading of approximately 1.139 billion shares, accounting for about 63.3% of the total shares traded in the exchange during the week, compared to roughly 659.1 million shares in the First Market, or about 36.7%.
Furthermore, the Main Market captured approximately 64.4% of the total number of transactions, with 82,292 deals, versus 45,541 deals in the First Market.
These figures indicate that activity was not confined to leading stocks but expanded to include a large segment of the Main Market, with continued liquidity rotation and selective speculation on several mid-cap and small-cap stocks.
Thursday’s session resembled a retest following the rapid rise; indices experienced periods of decline before regaining their balance at the close.
Liquidity in the week-ending session amounted to 87.92 million dinars, down from approximately 117.23 million dinars on Wednesday. However, the decline in trading coincided with the absence of a broad wave of selling, reinforcing the interpretation that the session represented a cooling-off period after the strong liquidity inflow on the previous day, rather than a collective exit.
Regarding the top-performing stocks, Al-Moshtraka led the gains with a rise of 1.93%, followed by Makhazen by 1.45%, and Gulf B by 1.18%. Conversely, Awal Fuel topped the list of declining stocks with a drop of 2.68%, followed by Alf Energy by 1.54%, and Investments by 1.06%.
In terms of trading value, Al-Watani led the most actively traded stocks with 7.3 million dinars, followed by Bit Al-Tamwil with 4.4 million dinars, and then Eiva with 2.6 million dinars.
