Oman: 27 crew members evacuated from commercial vessel after attack near Musandam

Oman announced today (Wednesday) the evacuation of 27 crew members from a commercial vessel flying the flag of Antigua and Barbuda, after it was targeted off the coast of Musandam Governorate, which overlooks the Strait of Hormuz in northern Oman. The incident resulted in the death of one crew member and a fire in the engine room.

The Oman Maritime Security Center, via its account on the X platform, stated that a ship from the Royal Navy of Oman carried out the evacuation of the crew of the commercial vessel CAPE DAO, in coordination and cooperation with the relevant authorities.

The center added that 27 crew members were evacuated and provided with necessary medical care after the vessel was targeted 2.5 nautical miles from Musandam Governorate.

Navigation activity in the region is experiencing increasing disruptions, coinciding with ongoing restrictions on passage through the Strait of Hormuz and escalating confrontations in Yemen and the Bab al-Mandab area.

Amid these developments, diplomatic efforts aimed at de-escalation continue. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said yesterday (Tuesday) that US President Donald Trump is open to meeting Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian or other Iranian officials on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York.

In an interview with Fox News, Rubio, responding to a question about the possibility of a meeting between Trump and Pezeshkian, said, “I think the president is open to meeting with him or with anyone else.”
