FIFA to test two new rules at the 27th Gulf Cup

FIFA has approved the trial of two new rules during the Gulf Arab Cup “Khaleeji 27” tournament. The first rule aims to limit goalkeepers’ attempts to waste time by feigning injuries, while the second addresses incidents in which an attacker pushes a defender during the execution of set pieces.

If the allotted time expires without a player being identified, the referee will order the team captain to leave the field for one minute. If the goalkeeper is the team captain, the second captain present on the field will be required to leave.

The second rule concerns collisions between attackers and defenders during set pieces, specifically cases where an attacker pushes an opponent and the ensuing attack continues and results in a goal.

Under the new trial, a foul will no longer be awarded in favor of the defender, as is currently the case. Instead, the goal will be disallowed, and the set piece will be retaken.

These trials are part of efforts to develop football laws and address certain situations that lead to time-wasting or refereeing controversies. The results of implementing these two rules during “Khaleeji 27” will be evaluated before a decision is made on whether to officially adopt them in the future.
