"Oil" Organizes Specialized Workshop
The Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC) organized a specialized workshop on “Crisis Management and the Integration of Hydrocarbon and Waste Transportation Systems, and Oil Spill Control: Best Practices and Procedures in the Field of Waste Transportation, Storage, and Monitoring.”
The workshop is part of efforts to strengthen joint national initiatives in environmental risk management, reflecting the oil sector’s commitment to enhancing cooperation and integration among relevant national entities, and to exchanging expertise and best practices in this vital area. The session covered the latest procedures and applications related to the transportation and monitoring of hydrocarbons and waste, mechanisms for their detection and tracking, and approaches to handling spill incidents and managing associated environmental risks.
In his opening address, Sheikh Nawaf Saud Al-Nasser Al-Sabah, Chief Executive Officer of the Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, emphasized that environmental responsibility is an integral part of the oil sector’s duties and mission. He stated that the Kuwaiti oil sector operates from a vision that balances meeting energy needs and supporting economic development with protecting the environment and preserving natural resources, through the application of the highest sustainability standards.
For his part, Engineer Abdullah Al-Ayar, Deputy Managing Director for Sustainability, outlined the workshop’s objectives. He affirmed that the Kuwaiti oil sector has, throughout its history, accumulated extensive institutional experience and strengthened its capabilities in managing environmental crises and responding effectively to emergencies, particularly in light of the current exceptional geopolitical conditions affecting the country and the region.
He noted that the workshop is grounded in lessons learned over the past decades, and aims to continue developing systems and operational procedures, entrench a culture of readiness, and foster coordination and joint action among the relevant entities.
