Albanian Intelligence Chief Turns Herself In After Arrest Warrant Issued

The prosecution had earlier announced the suspension of Hyseni’s duties and her placement under house arrest on suspicion of leaking confidential information to unauthorized individuals.

Local media reported that Hyseni was not in the country, before a police spokesperson confirmed to the French news agency AFP that she had surrendered herself at the Morina border crossing between Albania and Kosovo.

Prosecutors said Hyseni may have leaked classified information related to corruption investigations within the National Agency for Information Society (AKSHI), which is responsible for managing digital services and information technology infrastructure in Albania.

Over the past few years, the case has seen the prosecution of several officials and businessmen on charges related to the misuse of public funds.

This case is the latest corruption scandal to hit the government of Prime Minister Edi Rama, who said on the X platform that “everyone is innocent until a final verdict is issued, but no one is above the law, regardless of the reasons or circumstances.”
