Azerbaijan bans Iranian flights from September 22 due to US sanctions

The company stated in a statement on Tuesday that, “due to the new package of U.S. sanctions imposed on Iran, particularly those targeting the aviation sector, it has been decided to suspend flights by Iranian airlines to Azerbaijan starting September 22, 2026,” according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent had said on Monday that, starting September 23, Iranian airlines would be unable to operate flights and would also be denied ground handling services due to the sanctions.
