Kuwait Turk Bank: Nearly 480,000 gold pieces sold via ATMs in Turkey since 2011

From a traditional custom of saving and gifting to a digital banking service available around the clock, gold purchases in Turkey have shifted to automated teller machines (ATMs), which now allow customers to obtain gold pieces within minutes, without being bound by the operating hours of banks or jewelry stores.

Data from Turkey’s Kuwait Turk Bank highlights the popularity of this model, as the bank has sold 478,770 gold pieces via its ATMs since launching the service in 2011—nearly half a million pieces over 15 years.

The service is not limited to business hours. Bank data show that approximately one-third of gold purchases made through its ATMs occur outside regular working hours, indicating the role of technology in making gold accessible to customers at times when traditional purchase channels are unavailable.

The bank currently offers 24/7, seven-days-a-week access to physical, certified gold through 642 ATMs located at 404 sites across Turkey. Data indicate strong customer demand, clearly reflecting a genuine need.

Kuwait Turk Bank launched its “ATMs that sell gold” service in 2011, a project that was the first in Turkey and the second in the world following similar applications.

The goal was to provide a comprehensive solution enabling customers to access physical gold without time or location constraints, in line with the bank’s vision for innovative digital banking services focused on transparency, reliability, and user experience.
