Foreign Minister Discusses Strengthening Coordination Among Elected Members of the Security Council

Foreign Minister Sheikh Jaraah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah hosted, on Monday evening, the third annual ministerial dinner of elected members of the Security Council, jointly with Latvia’s Foreign Minister Baiba Braze, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Muhammad Ishaq Dar, and Shamala Thompson, Executive Director of Security Council Report. The event brought together the ten currently serving members of the Council and the five elected members set to join, on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

The working dinner focused on the strategic role of elected members of the Security Council, ways to enhance coordination and cooperation among them, and ensuring continuity of work and the transfer of institutional expertise between current and incoming members, thereby strengthening their collective contribution to supporting the effectiveness of the Security Council and its capacity to respond to challenges related to international peace and security.
