France drafts Security Council resolution on the Strait of Hormuz

France is drafting a new resolution at the United Nations Security Council aimed at reopening the Strait of Hormuz to navigation, according to a diplomatic source who briefed journalists.

The source said, “France wants to work with the Americans and its partners on a Security Council resolution that ensures freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.”

Last April, Russia and China used their veto power against a resolution drafted by Bahrain with the support of Gulf states and the United States, which also called for the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.
