De la Fuente extends his contract

Spain manager Luis de la Fuente has extended his contract until 2032 after leading the national team to victory in the World Cup this summer, following their triumph at Euro 2024, according to the Spanish Football Federation.

In a statement, the federation said, “Luis de la Fuente’s contract will be extended to cover the next two European Championships (2028 and 2032) and the 2030 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Spain, Portugal, Morocco, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Argentina.”

The 65-year-old coach, who took charge of “La Roja” at the end of 2022 succeeding Luis Enrique, the current manager of French club Paris Saint-Germain, will continue his tenure with the aim of replicating the historic treble achieved by Spain between 2008 and 2012, which included two European Championship titles and a World Cup crown.

De la Fuente, a former youth team coach, is deemed by federation president Rafael Louzan to deserve “a long future” at the helm of the Spanish national team’s technical staff, following 14 years with the federation.

De la Fuente, who also won the 2023 UEFA Nations League and the 2019 UEFA European Under-21 Championship, is the most decorated coach in Spanish history after guiding the national team to its second World Cup title this summer in the United States.
