Sosa puts final touches on Blue Team preparations
The Kuwait national football team will conclude its preparations for its highly anticipated and crucial match against Saudi Arabia, scheduled for 9:00 PM tomorrow (Wednesday) at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium, in the official opening match of the Gulf Cup 27, which Saudi Arabia will host from the 23rd of this month until October 6.
The "Blue" team will hold its final training session for the match from 8:00 to 10:00 PM today at the auxiliary pitch of King Abdullah Stadium, with the training open to Kuwaiti and Gulf media outlets for 15 minutes.
The technical staff of the "Blue" team, led by Portuguese coach Hélio Sousa, is putting the final touches on the tactical plan to face the Saudi team. The strategy relies on a balanced approach between defense and attack, narrowing the spaces in front of the "Green" team's key players, and applying pressure across all areas of the pitch, aiming to stop the opponent's attacks early and prevent them from launching successive offensives.
Recent training sessions have indicated that the "Blue" team's attacks will be varied, whether through central penetration or relying on the wingers, alongside instructions from Sousa for players to increase shooting from various angles and distances at the goal.
Perhaps the most reassuring factor for Sousa and his assistants is the completeness of the squad, as the injuries sustained by the players are minor bruises that do not raise concerns about their participation in the opening match.
Sousa appears to have the opportunity to select the optimal and most suitable lineup for the anticipated match against the home side, given that some positions have not yet been finalized by the coach as of yesterday's training session.
Several players have strong chances of participating, led by Abdulwahab Al-Awadi and Muath Al-Zafiri, while keeping in mind that the duo of Rashid Al-Dosari and Mohsen Falah are not far from the starting lineup, alongside Fahad Al-Hajri, Khalid Sabah, Khalid Al-Murshid, Jasim Al-Matar, Ahmed Al-Zafiri, Mohammed Daham, Yousef Nasser, and Yousef Majed.
The goalkeeper position sees intense competition between Saud Al-Houshan and Khalid Al-Rashidi, although Al-Houshan's chances appear somewhat better, as he is the most ready and has been the most frequent participant with Al-Kuwait Club in the current season.
For his part, Aymen Al-Husaini, Vice President of the Kuwait Football Association and head of the delegation, confirmed that the "Blue" team enters every tournament with the goal of competing for the title. He added in a media statement that the description of the Kuwait-Saudi Arabia encounters as a "Gulf Derby" still applies.
Al-Husaini emphasized that the chances between the "Blue" and the "Green" teams appear equal, noting that the home advantage and crowd support will naturally favor the opponent, but since the match is a "derby," excitement, competitiveness, and enjoyment will not be absent from the encounter.
Al-Husaini recalled the impact of media statements in previous editions of the Gulf Cup, stating that the tournament was previously managed through media channels, and that statements by figures such as Sheikh Fahd Al-Ahmad, Prince Faisal bin Fahd, Sheikh Isa bin Khalifa, and Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed were part of its atmosphere.
