Gulf Coordination to Unify International Positions and Support Regional Security
The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states discussed yesterday ways to enhance coordination and consultation on regional and international issues, and to unify Gulf positions in international forums, during the Coordinating Council of Ministers meeting held on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the meeting, attended by Foreign Minister Sheikh Jeraf Al-Jaber, addressed ways to strengthen cooperation and coordination among GCC member states, as well as preparations for scheduled meetings with several countries, blocs, and regional and international organizations on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly.
Jasem Al-Budaiwi, Secretary-General of the GCC, affirmed in a statement on the occasion of the Coordinating Council meeting that the active Gulf presence in international forums, and the continuous growth of the GCC’s relations with countries, groups, and regional and international organizations, reflect the advanced standing enjoyed by GCC member states on the international stage.
Al-Budaiwi said that the meeting comes within the framework of continuous coordination and consultation among GCC member states on various issues of mutual interest, thereby reinforcing the unity of the Gulf position and consolidating the joint efforts of GCC member states in regional and international forums.
He affirmed that GCC member states are committed to strengthening their regional and international relations and building effective and sustainable partnerships based on mutual respect and shared interests, contributing to consolidating security, stability, peace, and development regionally and internationally, reflecting the unified positions of GCC member states on regional and international issues.
In a related development, Minister Al-Jaber discussed the latest regional developments today in a phone call with Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a statement that the call also covered diplomatic efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in the region and ensuring the safety and freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Minister Al-Jaber also participated in the 21st Ministerial Working Dinner on the Middle East, held at the International Peace Institute in New York City.
