US Treasury Secretary: 'Very successful' talks with China on trade and AI

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent praised “very successful” talks on Sunday with Chinese officials on trade and artificial intelligence, noting that both sides reaffirmed the need to enhance communication regarding AI-related threats.

Bessort told reporters after a lengthy meeting with Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng and ahead of the summit scheduled for Thursday in Washington between President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping, “We just had very successful talks with the Chinese side on trade and artificial intelligence.”

Bessent said that regarding AI, the United States had proposed a “notification mechanism between the two countries,” adding, “We are seeking a shared vision of objectives and threats.”
