Zelensky announces plans to meet Trump in New York as peace efforts accelerate

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced plans to meet with U.S. President Donald Trump in New York in the coming days, amid intensified efforts to revive negotiations aimed at ending the war in Ukraine.

Zelenskyy said he spoke by phone with Trump and discussed a range of issues on the eve of the anticipated meeting, which is expected to take place while both presidents attend the United Nations General Assembly.

Speaking on the Telegram platform on Sunday, Zelenskyy stated that the meeting in New York “could achieve a great deal,” pointing to the possibility of resuming negotiations to end the war.

Zelenskyy had previously met with chief U.S. negotiator Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner earlier this month during their visit to Kyiv.

This was the first time the duo visited Ukraine in their capacity as mediators in the conflict, following several previous visits to Russia, which launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine more than four and a half years ago.
