Mojtaba's correspondence mediator killed in mysterious crime
A source in the office of the Iranian Supreme Leader confirmed the accuracy of the information published by Al-Jarida in its issue yesterday regarding Mojtaba Khamenei’s severance of all internal communications for approximately one week. The source revealed that the decision came in the wake of the killing of one of the intermediaries responsible for conveying messages to and from the Supreme Leader’s son. The incident initially appeared accidental, but a review of surveillance camera footage uncovered details that raised suspicions of a targeted operation.
The source told Al-Jarida that the intermediary was killed about ten days ago in a traffic accident that was initially treated as accidental. However, a detailed examination of the camera footage at the scene revealed a different picture: the man was seen attempting to flee from a car and a motorcycle that were pursuing him before the crash. Suspicion intensified after a subsequent investigation determined that the license plates of both the car and the motorcycle involved in the chase had been stolen.
The source added that the discovery of this security breach prompted Mojtaba to cut off all internal communications and withdraw from public view, pending clarification of whether the incident had exposed only this intermediary or whether the broader network of messengers and intermediaries linked to him had been compromised.
Al-Jarida had previously reported that among Mojtaba’s final decisions before his disappearance were sweeping changes within his office, involving influential figures, most notably Ali Asghar Haghajani. Haghajani had served for more than 35 years as one of the key figures in the office of the late Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, holding the position of Deputy Head of the Office and overseeing a significant aspect of coordination between the office and the security apparatus.
The source disclosed that Haghajani subsequently became the target of an arrest and investigation campaign carried out by security agencies, which included figures suspected of being involved in the exposure of the late Supreme Leader’s private correspondence network.
This move carries additional significance in light of the longstanding feud between Haghajani and Hossein Taeb, the current head of the Basij (Popular Mobilization Force) and former head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) Intelligence Organization, who is known for his close ties to Mojtaba. By virtue of his position, Haghajani had for years served as a key link between the Supreme Leader’s office and the security agencies, while Taeb was one of the most prominent security figures close to Khamenei’s son.
According to the source, the rift between the two men erupted months ago during a session of the Assembly of Experts, which saw the election of Mojtaba Khamenei as his father’s successor. Haghajani opposed Mojtaba’s election, stating that the late Supreme Leader had instructed him to oppose any attempt to hereditary succession to the position of Supreme Leader.
It is worth noting that Taeb was previously dismissed from his position due to his support for Mojtaba’s succession during the tenure of President Ebrahim Raisi.
