Brighton caught Arsenal's first defeat of the season

Brighton caused a major upset by defeating visiting Arsenal 3-0 in the fifth round of the English Premier League on Saturday.

After eliminating Manchester United from the English League Cup with a 3-2 away victory at Old Trafford last week, Brighton continued to embarrass England’s big clubs, handing the defending champions their first defeat of the season in all domestic and continental competitions.

Brighton led at halftime with goals from Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas in the 31st and 45th minutes, respectively, and Shime Cervi added the third in the second half in the 57th minute.

Arsenal suffered their first loss, leaving them on 12 points in second place, trailing league leaders Manchester City on goal difference. Manchester City will host Sunderland on Sunday.
