Grain bag costs one million pounds in Sudan!

Food prices have surged sharply in the northern localities of Sudan’s West Kordofan State, amid transportation difficulties and restrictions, severe market shortages, and grain sack prices exceeding one million Sudanese pounds in the state.

The organizations Darfur Victims Advocacy and Al-Amal and Al-Malaz for Refugees expressed deep concern in a statement published today on their Facebook pages, as reported by the DPA news agency, over the acute deterioration of humanitarian and livelihood conditions in the northern localities of West Kordofan State, resulting from the failure of the agricultural season and the cessation and scarcity of rainfall, coinciding with the worsening security situation and the expansion of the conflict.

The two organizations noted that field reports indicate that drought and scarce rainfall have caused damage and desiccation of vast areas of agricultural crops, with local estimates suggesting that damage levels have reached approximately 90% in some areas.

The crisis is worsening amid the ongoing conflict and deteriorating security conditions, with approximately 600 families displaced toward Talila and Omdurman in search of safety and basic needs.
