Wall Street Faces Sharp Volatility and Dual Pressures

Wall Street ended a week marked by sharp volatility with a cautious performance in yesterday’s session, as yields on benchmark U.S. Treasury bonds surpassed 5% and crude oil prices retreated from earlier gains, though they remained above $100 per barrel, keeping inflation concerns at the forefront of attention.

Chuck Carlson, chief executive officer of Horizon Investment Services in Hammond, Indiana, said, “It looks like almost everyone reached the end of the week exhausted by all the activity they had witnessed, so they decided to exercise caution at this stage.”

Inflation concerns persist, as crude oil prices closed above $100 per barrel but fell from their intraday highs after China called on Iran to reduce the scope of attacks carried out by Yemen’s Houthi militia against the region’s oil infrastructure.
