Mojtaba Khamenei disconnected from the internal communications network for a week
A source in the office of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, told Al-Jarida that the latter has been completely cut off from the internal communications network for about a week, as demands from Iranian officials for his guidance are increasing. This comes as the country navigates a highly sensitive phase amid the prospect of renewed US strikes if ongoing efforts to reach an agreement involving tangible Iranian concessions fail.
The source stated that the disconnection from the Leader’s office persists despite the existence of a highly complex security mechanism for delivering messages to him. Approximately six trusted individuals are responsible for transporting messages, delivering them, or receiving replies, with meeting locations determined through brief, fleeting communications.
However, Mojtaba halted communication through this intermediary channel for reasons that remain unclear, leading to a backlog of guidance requests without any responses since then.
The source clarified that the last output from the Leader was about a week ago, when he sent a series of messages regarding decisions and internal changes within his office. These were handwritten, signed, and stamped with his personal seal. Since then, he has not responded to any messages, according to the source.
The source suggested two possible reasons for this disconnection: first, health issues, given Mojtaba’s constant need for medical treatment; and second, that he may have decided to change the network of intermediaries he relies on, fearing that Americans or Israelis might monitor one of its members or uncover the communication mechanism with him.
The source, who has known Mojtaba since childhood, noted that the Leader, who already possessed high security awareness even before the current circumstances, was originally disturbed by the insistence of some officials on making direct contact with him, as such communications could potentially reveal his location.
In this context, the source revealed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian had requested a meeting with Mojtaba before his trip to Bishkek to participate in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, and subsequently to New Delhi for the BRICS summit. However, the response he received from the Leader was limited to a single phrase: “Send a written message.”
The source added that Pezeshkian, who plans to travel to New York this week to attend the United Nations General Assembly meetings, again requested a meeting with Khamenei, but so far he has received no response.
The silence surrounding the Leader’s office has taken on special significance amid rapid developments, particularly after news leaked about US President Donald Trump reaching a critical stage in deciding whether to resume strikes on Iran, should Tehran fail to respond to ongoing efforts to reach an agreement.
