White House withdraws Richard Shriver's nomination to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement

Trump had announced Shroeder as his nominee in June and urged the Senate to confirm his appointment. The White House did not provide a reason for withdrawing the nomination.

Shroeder is a former Oklahoma state police officer and a former U.S. Marine. The position had become vacant after Todd Lyons, the acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, announced months earlier that he would step down from his post.

The administration carried out controversial immigration raids in Democratic-led cities, during which some officers wore masks to conceal their identities. These operations sparked widespread protests across the United States.

Public outrage intensified after two U.S. citizens were shot and killed by federal officers from multiple agencies during an operation in Minneapolis last January.
