"Media": Accuracy of government information is the foundation for countering rumors

Dr. Nasser Al-Muhaisen, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Information, affirmed that the speed and accuracy of disseminating government information from official sources help bridge the gap between government messaging and the public, while curbing the spread of rumors and inaccurate information.

He made these remarks during a discussion session at the 2026 Arab Media Summit, held in Dubai under the theme “The Audience Has Changed… Has Government Communication Changed?” The session was moderated by media personality Hiba Za’arour and featured participation from several specialists and officials in the field of government communication.

Al-Muhaisen stated that the Government Communication Center in Kuwait represents an integrated system that unifies the government platforms of ministries, authorities, and institutions, contributing to the rapid and accurate delivery of information through official and verified accounts, official spokespersons, and direct appearances by officials across various media outlets.

He added that government communication platforms work to simplify official messages so they reach the public in a clear and accessible manner, while also leveraging press conferences, television interviews, and other modern tools to enhance direct engagement with the public.

He emphasized the importance of responding swiftly to rumors and not allowing them time to spread, explaining that rumors grow in the presence of what he described as a “media vacuum”—a temporal space devoid of facts.

He underscored the necessity of filling this vacuum with accurate and clear information, even if not all details are available initially, with the understanding that they will be supplemented later. He stressed that rapid response must always be coupled with accuracy, transparency, and consideration of the nature of the rumor and the scale of its spread.

The 2026 Arab Media Summit concluded its sessions today at the Dubai World Trade Center, following three days of specialized sessions and events. The summit is held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President of the United Arab Emirates, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, and by the directives of Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Chairman of the Dubai Media Council.
