Amorim: We are facing a mental problem

Portuguese manager Ruben Amorim, head coach of Italian club Milan, acknowledged that his team is facing a potential mental issue at the start of matches, following their 2-0 defeat to Portuguese visitors Benfica in the opening stage of their Europa League campaign, while affirming his readiness to adjust his tactical approach if necessary.

Milan suffered their first defeat under Amorim’s leadership after drawing in their previous two Serie A matches against Juventus and Lazio.

Amorim said: “I don’t know if the problem is mental, but it’s the second consecutive match in which we were not present during the first half. We cannot concede such a goal, because we are already struggling to create chances, and when that happens, we feel tense and anxious, making things even more difficult.”

He added that the team needs more organization, noting that most of the chances created by opponents come after Milan loses possession.

Amorim defended some of his decisions after Luka Modric remained on the bench for the entire match, while Diego Moreira was omitted from the starting lineup despite scoring two goals against Lazio.
