Olympic team faces Uzbekistan at a "crossroads"

Kuwait’s Olympic football team will face Uzbekistan at 1:00 p.m. tomorrow at Minato Stadium in the second round of Group C during the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026).
This match will be preceded by the Philippines versus Vietnam, scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the same venue, also in Group C.
In the first round, Kuwait drew 1-1 with Vietnam, while Uzbekistan defeated the Philippines 5-1.
For the “Blue” team, tomorrow’s match is a crossroads. A victory would bring the team significantly closer to advancing to the Round of 16, while a draw would keep their chances alive, with the outcome to be decided in the final match against the Philippines. Conversely, a defeat would severely complicate their position, making their fate dependent on other results.
It is worth noting that the top two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the Round of 16.
The technical staff of the “Blue” team, led by Spanish coach David Doniga, is well-versed in every detail of their opponent after watching their first-round match against the Philippines. That match confirmed Uzbekistan’s strength, the high individual skills of its players, and their high level of physical fitness.
Therefore, Doniga will rely on a defensive approach in the upcoming match, securing the midfield and launching counter-attacks to reach the opponent’s goal. He will make several changes to the starting lineup, the first being the inclusion of Omar Al-Mutar, who scored Kuwait’s goal against Vietnam, and Muath Al-Asim.
In the other match, Vietnam and the Philippines enter the game under the motto “no alternative but victory.” A win for Vietnam would put them one foot in the Round of 16, while the Philippines will seek to regain their balance and re-enter the race for qualification.
Kuwaiti national team teqball player Zaid Al-Aidan has advanced to the semifinals of the 20th Asian Games (Aichi-Nagoya 2026), which Japan is hosting until October 4 next year. He achieved this after a distinguished campaign in the men’s singles event, culminating in strong performances in both the group stage and the quarterfinals.
Al-Aidan played four matches in Group A during the qualifying round, securing three wins out of four, which was enough to advance to the knockout stages. He defeated Myanmar, Mongolia, and Kyrgyzstan with identical scores of two games to nil, while suffering a single loss to Iraq, also by a score of two games to nil.
In the quarterfinals, Al-Aidan continued his impressive run, overcoming Japan with a decisive two-games-to-nil victory. This secured his place in the medal contention and confirmed his technical and physical readiness for the semifinal match scheduled for the day after tomorrow (Saturday).
Al-Aidan’s advancement is a notable achievement for Kuwait in teqball, a relatively new sport on the Asian stage. The player continues to raise his country’s profile at the continent’s largest sporting event, moving one step closer to the podium.
In the men’s doubles competition, the pair of Basel Ahmad and Abdulwahab Al-Qattan also advanced to the semifinals. They overcame the qualifying hurdles with confidence and a brilliant performance, confirming their high readiness to compete for a medal. The duo is scheduled to face Lebanon in the semifinal match the day after tomorrow.
