Culture – Cairo Celebrates “Egyptian Music Day”

From the melodies of Sayyid Darwish that expressed the soul of the Egyptians to the tarab songs that remain vivid in memory, Cairo celebrated music as an integral part of life and identity during an artistic event held at the Rawda El-Fergh Cultural Palace in the Egyptian capital.

The event was opened with a speech by musician Rajah Dawoud, who affirmed that music has never been a luxury for Egyptians; rather, it has been an authentic part of their lives and civilization, intertwined with work, celebrations, rituals, and various occasions, making it a fundamental component of identity and a human need no less essential than air and water.

The concert continued with a performance by the Cairo Arabic Music Ensemble, led by Maestro Mohamed Abdullah, which presented a selection of famous tarab songs, including “Ya Musafir Wahdak,” “Shams Al-Asil,” “Ahoo Deh Elly Sar,” “Kol Deh Kan Layeh,” “Ya Wahshni,” “Ya Musafir,” “Ana Al-Masri,” “Lamouni Al-Nas,” “Al-Sahbajia,” “Sirat Al-Hob,” and “In Kunt Nasi,” amidst great audience engagement.
