Manchester United exits the English League Cup after losing to Brighton

Days after suffering a 1-0 derby defeat to Manchester City in the English Premier League, despite their opponent playing with a man down from the first half following the red card shown to Phil Foden, United received a fresh shock by being eliminated from the season's first cup competition.

In the first minute of first-half stoppage time, Greek midfielder Charalampos Kostoulas pulled one back for Brighton, before German midfielder Pascal Gross equalized with a second goal in the 65th minute. Belgian forward Maxim De Cuyper then added a third goal in the 69th minute.

United are among the historic giants of the English League Cup, having won the trophy 10 times, level with their rivals Manchester City. Liverpool top the all-time list with 15 titles.
