Al-Wahda snatches victory from Al-Kuwait in stoppage time

In a hard-fought match, UAE’s Al-Wehda defeated visiting Kuwait 3-2 in a match held today at Al Nahyan Stadium in Abu Dhabi, in the opening round of the AFC Champions League Two.

Moussa Diarra pulled one back with a goal in the 23rd minute. Prior to the goal, Mohammed Daham was clearly fouled, but the absence of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology prevented Japanese referee Ryo Tanimoto from reviewing the incident.

Kuwait finished the match with only ten players from the 60th minute onward, after the referee showed Mohammed Marhun a second yellow card, followed by a red card, for delaying a counter-attack.

In the remaining minutes, Al-Wehda players pressed hard to equalize, but standout performances by Kuwaiti goalkeeper Saud Al-Houshan prevented them from doing so.

In the seventh minute of stoppage time, Bentiketti scored Al-Wehda’s third goal, securing a difficult 3-2 victory for the UAE side.
