South Korea remains committed to accelerating AI development

South Korean Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Science, Bai Kyung-hoon, has rejected calls to slow the pace of artificial intelligence development, emphasizing the necessity of continuing his country’s investment in the technology.

In a post on social media, Bai stated that Seoul must continue to develop AI without pause or delay, noting that his country cannot afford to slow its progress in this technology amid intense global competition.

Bai added that, alongside the development of large language models, South Korea must expand into other technologies, such as models capable of understanding surrounding environments and operating within industrial facilities.

South Korea views AI development as a key element in enhancing its competitiveness, particularly as the technology shifts from being merely language models to systems that can be directly applied in factories and various sectors.
