Kuwaiti brothers atop the Asian jiu-jitsu throne

Kuwaiti champions, brothers Obaid and Abdullah Hamoud Al-Rafeedi, capped their continental achievements by winning gold medals in their respective age categories at the conclusion of the AJP Asia Jiu-Jitsu Championship, held in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital. The event featured a record-breaking participation of over 2,000 athletes representing elite clubs and academies from around the world.

At the closing ceremony, the brothers were presented with their gold medals by Mohammed Salem Al-Zahiri, Vice President of the UAE Jiu-Jitsu Federation, and Yousef Abdullah Al-Batrane, a member of the board of directors. The athletes received widespread praise from the technical and administrative staff present for their tactical discipline and high-level skills, despite their young age, as both are no older than seven years old.

This continental success crowns an exceptional journey during which the brothers have competed in 30 official matches over the past three months without suffering a single defeat. In that span, they secured 15 medals across six consecutive tournaments, including the Grand Prix in Istanbul, the International Championships in Turkey and Qatar, as well as the Kuwait Championship and the GRAPPLING INDUSTRIES League, thereby affirming their absolute dominance in various regional competitions.

The champions expressed their pride in representing Kuwaiti sports and raising the country’s flag on these global stages. They reaffirmed their determination to continue intensive training to maintain their winning streak, amid ongoing preparations for the upcoming international competition scheduled to take place in Doha, the Qatari capital, next month.
